Jernbro’s operation in Småland has gained long-term trust as a maintenance partner for SAAB’s factory in Huskvarna by signing a 3-year operational safety agreement. SAAB’s factory in Huskvarna, which produces instruments and devices for the defense industry, has high demands on productivity and reliability and felt that Jernbro could fulfill their needs through a reliability agreement.

In the past year, Jernbro’s operations in Huskvarna have focused on introducing an object-oriented way of working at SAAB. The combination of skilled contractors, elaborated working methods, fact-based documents and user-friendly customer interfaces resulted in SAAB wanting to sign a 3-year operational reliability agreement with the option of extension, based on an object-oriented maintenance delivery.

It was in connection with a study visit to another Jernbro customer that SAAB heard that Jernbro offers maintenance. SAAB liked the arrangement they saw on the study visit.

− Therefore we asked from Jernbro about how a pilot could be set up according to their experience. We agreed on a plan which meant that Jernbro would carry out maintenance and service, as well as some other measures on a pilot project for just over 1 year. The result was very good and that is the reason why we wanted to sign an agreement, says Jon Andersson, Production Manager at SAAB Surveillance in Huskvarna.

− We also wanted stability regarding competence and which personnel come and work with us because it helps us to build trust among ourselves. We are therefore confident that there will be competent maintenance mechanics and service technicians from Jernbro that we get to know. Since we want satisfactory maintenance, we must be able to trust that the work will be done. During the year or so that we have collaborated with Jernbro, we have noticed just that. Jernbro also takes overall responsibility. If we have a problem, Jernbro’s personnel solve it, Jon continues.

− It is of course very nice to receive this trust from a company like SAAB, which places high demands on its machinery and maintenance. Our ambition with the collaboration is to develop the maintenance at SAAB so that they have satisfactory and reliable production, says Anders Gustafsson at Jernbro, who is responsible for the agreement.

Jernbro’s work at SAAB mainly involves planned preventive maintenance which is governed by the agreed maintenance plan. These are, for example, lathes, milling machines, surface treatment machines, metalworking machines and test facilities in hydraulics that are affected.

In short, notifications about the need for maintenance are registered in Jernbro’s customer portal, which in turn is confirmed when they have been received and the assignments are then carried out. If, for some reason, it should not be carried out, feedback is given as to why.

− So, we never have to hunt for information. If we want to delve into why things are the way they are, it is easy to do so in the digital interfaces that Jernbro provides. It is also easy to report errors and check the preventive maintenance plans, as well as follow up finances and what has been done, Jon explains.

− The cooperation with Jernbro is very flexible. They have really understood what we at SAAB want. They also have a solid selection of many more skills that we have not yet used, Jon concludes.

SAAB

Jernbro’s object-oriented way of working
in maintenance means that:

  • all equipment is suitably broken down and registered in a plant register
  • all efforts on all equipment are registered on service orders
  • the categorization of the orders is based on input type (preventive and supportive maintenance, improvements, modifications)
  • costs (time, materials and purchased services) are registered on service orders
  • there is a preventive maintenance program defined for all equipment
  • registration is made of basic operational security information
  • the customer has access to all relevant information via user-friendly digital interfaces (Jernbro Performance Portal and Jernbro Customer Portal)
