Another appreciated round of the Jernbro Maintenance School has taken place. The training aims to increase the competence in maintenance and maintenance development of Jernbro’s employees.

− All the participants were interested, engaged and appreciated gaining more knowledge about how all of us at Jernbro should work to offer customers added value. It was noticed that the training strengthened the feeling of being part of a larger whole, says Niklas Jälmevik, one of the trainers at Jernbro.

–  The training helped me sharpen my skills. But I also received confirmation that we are largely doing the right thing. It felt good, because we want to give the customer a high quality of work and contribute to them getting as much as possible, says Henrik Hoffer, Foreman at Jernbro in Trelleborg.

–  A large part of the time was devoted to the importance of performing risk observations and risk analyzes before starting work. It was clear that Jernbro’s highest priority is that no one gets hurt, says Dennis Nertling, mechanic at Jernbro in Falkenberg.

– One thing I was reminded of was the 5S method. It means that everyone takes responsibility for creating and maintaining order in the workplace according to a common standard. I will keep that in mind going forward, says Henrik.

– I will start applying the 5 Whys method, which is used to access the root cause of a problem and which can be used in improvement work and problem solving. I will be able to apply it quite often in my work, because it would really be good to ask yourself the question why more often and based on that create the right way to handle problems, says Daniel Larsson, pipe welder at Jernbro in Luleå.

– In my client assignment, we work with preventive maintenance and identify problems that may result in a remedial work order. We look at various parameters and analyze where it is wrong. Here we can also make use of 5 Why, says Henrik.

Henrik will definitely also apply the benefit of working Jernbrofierat, i.e. that everyone works according to established working methods towards the customer. The right way of working can contribute to downtime being as short as possible. It can also be to help the customer become more efficient and get lower costs with the help of preventive maintenance. Identifying time stealers and using it to streamline work shifts is another.

– The impression is that the trainers were knowledgeable and had a lot to share about everything such as purchasing, negotiations, customer processing, as well as how to work safely and clean the workshop. They were perceived as a perfect combo and it was clearly noticeable that they were committed. The fact that they radiated energy was a strong contributing factor to the fact that the education was good, Daniel thinks.

– It was nice to talk to other colleagues on the course. It was everything from new hires to department heads who came from different parts of the country, from Trelleborg in the south to Gällivare in the north. It has meant that I have broadened my network of contacts, says Dennis.

– I think that the training was rich in content and that the subjects were connected well. Having an education under Jernbro’s own auspices creates a deeper understanding of how we at Jernbro should work. In addition, it contributes to the employees feeling greater participation in the work and gaining a greater understanding of the company’s vision and how we should approach our tasks, says Daniel.

Niklas says that they have deliberately made sure to have variety in the training material and build it on theory and practice with group exercises and discussion exercises. He says that it seems that they have succeeded in making even the theoretical subjects interesting.

−  When we asked after 2 days of training if it had been worth spending 2 days with us as trainers, everyone answered with a resounding yes. It felt like a confirmation that what we do is good and that we as trainers also learn from previous courses, says Niklas in conclusion.
