At Jernbro in Trelleborg, custom-made silos for the plastics industry are manufactured of the highest quality, which are used for the storage of plastic granules. The workshop is one of the few in Sweden within this niche. A customer who appreciates Jernbro’s expertise in the field is Trioworld.

– We work with all plastics industries in Sweden, which buy their basic material in bulk and which need a silo that can pump granules into a factory machine. Our customers say they are satisfied with the product, due to its long life-span and minimal wear and tear, says Sami Järvenpää, Business Unit Manager Project South at Jernbro.

− Jernbro has delivered and installed many silos over the years. The reason we order from Jernbro is that it is flexible and because it makes our work more efficient. This allows us to focus on our main business, which is manufacturing plastic film from plastic granules. Having direct contact with Jernbro also facilitates our discussions on technical aspects, says Fredrik Cato, Purchasing Manager at Trioworld.

− We want as many suppliers as possible close to us. If that is met and the supplier also delivers high quality and design, as well as being service-minded and easy to work with, it suits us perfectly. For us, it is also important that questions are handled correctly and quickly. Jernbro fulfills all these wishes, says Marco van den Brink, Production Technician at Trioworld.

An important advantage of Jernbro’s silos is that they are made of aluminium, a material that offers excellent durability and is not affected by rust, leakage and condensation, which other materials can contribute to. In addition, Jernbro’s construction requires minimal maintenance and hardly any repairs over time.

Jernbro’s workshop for manufacture of silos

− It suits us well that Jernbro’s silos are made of aluminum because it weighs less than steel and therefore does not require such a robust platform, as well as that they rust less. One way for us to be able to handle a large capacity is to have silos that are high and not too wide. Every week around 75 trucks come to us, each delivering 24-36 tonnes. In order to handle these large deliveries, most of the silos are 22 meters high and hold around 150 cubic meters. We currently have 81 silos of various sizes, with the largest having a capacity to store 90 tonnes, says Fredrik.

– Our method is carefully designed and means that the plates are first rolled to the correct radius and then welded together in sections. We assemble our silos from the top and work our way down. Each section is carefully welded to ensure durability and precision. To work with aluminium, specific welding skills are required and I am proud that we possess that, says Sami.

What also contributes to Jernbro being able to manufacture silos in a rational way is partly long experience and partly that the silos are built in a kind of tower in the workshop. All parts such as mantle cup, roof, cone and mantle walls are built in Jernbro’s workshop.

Depending on the customer’s needs, silos can be manufactured in different sizes. The most common diameters are 3200 and 3800 mm. The highest silo that Jernbro has built is 24 meters high. The flexibility offered makes it possible to tailor solutions for different plastics industries depending on storage needs.

− Since the silos measure 22 m, it is positive to have Jernbro close to us in that the transports will be shorter and cheaper. In addition, we are extra happy that Jernbro handles everything related to the actual transport of the silos, because they are advanced due to their length, as well as requiring permits. Jernbro also carries out crane lifting of silos on site, says Fredrik.

− We appreciate that Jernbro challenges us by, for example, asking if we have thought about doing it this way instead, because it helps us learn more. We are really satisfied with the cooperation with our contact persons at Jernbro who handle construction, transport and installation, says Marco in conclusion.
