Noise reduction at more than 60 metres’ height
To reduce noise from the chimney at the power plant in Kyndby, noise-reduction panels had to be installed inside the flue gas duct.
The task included manufacturing special profiles and steel structures, followed by installation at more than 60 metres’ height on the boiler building, where access conditions and lifting required thorough planning.
Challenge
The installation first required the manufacture of special profiles and steel structures.
Strong winds and crane lifts at more than 60 metres’ height made for a difficult start-up.
The work took place in and around the flue gas duct, where space constraints and increased weight placed demands on both planning and safety.
Solution
The method was adjusted so the lifts could be carried out safely. Inside the flue gas duct, a rail system was welded in place for positioning and securing the silencers.
Externally, spring hangers were replaced, and additional steel structures were welded onto the existing duct to brace it for the increased load.
Results
Start-up challenges led to delays, which were recovered through reprioritising resources and close dialogue with the customer.
The challenges were resolved, and the plant was declared ready at the agreed time.
Externally, spring hangers were replaced, and additional steel structures were welded onto the existing duct to brace it for the increased load.
