HKScan reduces energy costs through efficient heat recovery with Jernbro
When HKScan in Linköping needed to improve the efficiency of its heat recovery system, Jernbro provided expertise in design, pipework, and installation. The collaboration resulted in a modernized system that saves energy and extends equipment life.
Challenge
Rising energy costs revealed inefficiencies in HKScan’s heat recovery system. The existing setup could no longer utilize the full heat potential from the cooling machines, leading to unnecessary energy loss and increased operating expenses.

Solution
Jernbro rebuilt and resized the system to fit HKScan’s new operating conditions. The project included taking apart the old pipes, fixing the accumulator tank, and installing a new hot gas heat exchanger to use the recovered heat more efficiently.
Together with HKScan’s engineers, Jernbro tested the system, improved the flow, and completed the final installation to make sure everything worked well. As a result, the system now runs smoothly and reliably, making the most of the recovered heat and saving energy.

Results
The new system provides greater energy recovery, lower costs, and increased lifespan. With the upgraded heat exchanger and additional condensate recovery project, HKScan expects to save up to 3 GWh annually, which is a major improvement achieved with minimal intervention.
