Ethanol column for the pharmaceutical industry
In connection with the construction of a major production unit in Kalundborg, a double ethanol column was to be installed.
We were tasked with manufacturing, delivering and installing the piping package according to the supplier’s drawings, as well as assembling associated equipment such as pumps, heat exchangers, valves, evaporators, condensers, coolers and compressors.
Challenge
The project included more than 5,000 metres of piping from DN15 to DN800 in CS, 304, 316L and Hastelloy. The pipes had to be received, stored and built up within the timeframe.
The work took place in buildings and steel structures that were not completed at start-up and required coordination with other contractors. At the same time, welding requirements were tightened, materials were delayed and the number of welds increased.
Solution
We established a local stainless-steel workshop in Kalundborg for prefabrication and storage and leased additional facilities to ensure capacity.
The project organisation managed coordination and technical clarifications, while welding technical management and site management ensured correct execution in accordance with the specified requirements.
Results
The project’s scope increased by 55%, measured by the number of welds.
The quality requirements were met, and the equipment was delivered within the specified timeframe.
