Challenge
Ovako in Boxholm needed to extend an existing conveyor belt to handle larger material dimensions and meet growing demand for long hot-rolled steel rods. The existing system was too short and could not deliver the required lengths. The project also had to be carried out during a short holiday maintenance break, which made time and sequencing critical.
− We needed new conditions in production to increase productivity and roll larger material dimensions with high quality, says Michael Willner, Project Manager at Ovako.
Solution
Jernbro delivered a complete package with mechanics, electricity, and piping. This reduced the need for multiple suppliers. The team dismantled old equipment and carried out precise measurements, since no drawings existed. They installed two new conveyor sections and relocated existing equipment. The work also included moving pipes for gas and compressed air, connecting central lubrication, and upgrading electrical systems with new wiring and lighting.
The project required close coordination between several professional groups. Each step was carefully planned, from dismantling to casting new foundations and installing the extended conveyor. Outdoor welding created weather challenges, but Jernbro kept the work on track.

Results
Jernbro completed the conveyor extension on schedule, which enabled Ovako to run longer steel rods and increase production capacity.
