Käppalaverket – rebuilding in a live, critical operation
With solid experience in rebuilding under live operating conditions and deep expertise in wastewater treatment, Jernbro plays a key role in the ongoing modernization of the Käppalaverket facility on Lidingö.
CHALLENGE: Rebuilding without disrupting operations
Käppalaverket, owned by Käppalaförbundet, is being upgraded to reduce emissions of nitrogen, phosphorus and organic matter into the Baltic Sea, while increasing treatment capacity.
The challenge is to carry out extensive rebuilding work while the facility remains fully operational, without affecting the treatment process.
SOLUTION: Prefabrication and installation with high precision
Jernbro’s team has manufactured and installed four 30-meter pipes in 28-meter-deep drilled shafts in the rock. Prefabrication of pipes, supports and connections was carried out in Jernbro’s workshop based on detailed engineering drawings from Maskinkonsulterna EVT.
Through close coordination with Käppalaverket and other contractors, combined with careful planning and risk analysis, the installation has been executed safely and efficiently despite the demanding environment.
RESULT: Quality in every step
The collaboration has worked smoothly, with strong appreciation for Jernbro’s welding quality and structured way of working, even when unexpected challenges have occurred.
All welds have been X-ray inspected, ensuring high quality and long-term performance.
