Gryaab improves safety and efficiency with a new ventilation chimney
When Gryaab needed to replace its 25-meter ventilation chimney, Jernbro delivered a safe and efficient solution from dismantling and reinforcement to construction and installation of the new structure.
Challenge
After inspection, Gryaab’s 25-meter-high ventilation chimney, which ventilated air from the northern tunnel system, was deemed unsafe and had to be replaced. The location on a mountain near the Lundby tunnel made access difficult and required careful planning for lifting and safety.
Solution
Jernbro handled the entire process: reinforcement, dismantling, design, manufacturing, welding, and installation of a new 5-meter chimney. A temporary chimney ensured continued ventilation during the project. Despite challenges with height, weight, and weather, Jernbro’s subsidiary GMK completed the work safely.
Results
The new chimney met all technical and environmental requirements. It provided improved safety, lower maintenance needs, and reduced costs. The cooperation between Gryaab and Jernbro worked seamlessly. A framework agreement is in place between Jernbro and Gryaab for the manufacture and assembly of load-bearing steel structures.
